How can you properly maintain your Oummi Abi Moi clothing?

Reading time: 2 minutes

This article is for you if you have just bought an Oummi Abi Moi item or if you visit our site and are still hesitating on which item to order (and if that’s the case, we encourage you to read the reviews left by our valued customers).

You are wondering how to maintain your Oummi Abi Moi clothes so that its quality is preserved over time. That’s why we’ve gathered these few tips for you.

We will cover the care of two fabrics: Whool Peach (Classic and Premium) and Caviary (Premium and Prestige). If you have an item made in another of these two fabrics, you will find the maintenance tips directly in product description, for example for our Set Madjouline and for items in our Winter Collection.

Whool Peach Fabric Classic and Premium

Nuancier WhoolPeach Roses

Whool Peach fabric remains our go-to material.
After nearly two years of sourcing from the Cairo fabric market, we decided to start producing our own rolls directly in a factory in Egypt. For years, we crafted our garments exclusively using the classic Whool Peach. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we have now chosen to gradually replace it with the even higher-quality Whool Peach Premium.

This new fabric retains the lightness and fluidity our customers love, while offering a more durable and resilient texture. Thanks to its enhanced softness and refined drape, it ensures a flawless look and unmatched comfort for any occasion. Available in a wide range of colors, this fabric won us over with its fluidity, making it ideal for all seasons—especially the warmer ones.

Regarding care instructions:

We now recommend handwashing as the best way to preserve your garments. But don’t worry—our clothing is perfectly machine-washable.

We advise washing at 40°C (104°F) with a spin cycle of up to 1000 rpm. The specific program, detergent, or softener to use will depend on your washing machine and personal preferences.

Among the commonly known precautions that apply to all garments, we suggest washing your clothes inside out. This is because repeated friction between the fabric and the drum of the washing machine can, over time, damage the fibers. Turning garments inside out helps prevent this.

Of course, we also recommend separating dark and light colors—not just for your Oummi Abi Moi items, but for the rest of your wardrobe too. We’re not entirely convinced that washing a Bois de Rose Maxi Khimar with a white tank top is a good idea… just like washing a red bath towel with a Caviary Cream Abaya. Even with color-catching sheets—let’s not take chances. That being said, our garments don’t bleed more than the average.

Air drying on a hanger is ideal. If hung immediately after washing, the fabric won’t wrinkle and can be worn without ironing (yes… great news!). Just make sure to hang the garments properly so that the seams aren’t pulled. You can zip up abayas to center them on the hanger and fasten the buttons of capes or kimocapes. As for khimars and jilbabs, they should be hung in a way that the tie seams are not under tension.

If you can’t dry or store your garments on hangers, don’t worry. As long as you follow the washing instructions, hang your laundry promptly, and fold and store it neatly, the quality will be preserved and you’ll likely avoid ironing. However, if your garment does get wrinkled, we recommend ironing at a low to medium temperature.

Caviary Fabric Premium and Prestige

Caviary fabric, like Whool Peach, is a high-quality fabric. Caviary is a semi-thick, fluid fabric that’s ideal for all seasons, especially the cooler ones. Caviary Prestige is the upgraded version of this fabric. It represents the ultimate choice for sharia-compliant clothing: thick and fully opaque, yet incredibly fluid, silky, and soft to the touch.

Its main difference compared to Whool Peach lies in the fabric’s weight—hence, its superior opacity. We do not recommend this fabric for travel to very hot countries, but we absolutely recommend it for cooler climates.

As for care instructions, here’s a small particularity: Whool Peach is more delicate and wrinkles more easily than Caviary, which is highly wrinkle-resistant—making it a perfect companion for sisters who don’t enjoy spending hours ironing!

Otherwise, the care instructions for Caviary are the same as for Whool Peach. To summarize:

  • Wash at a maximum of 40°C (104°F)
  • Gentle spin cycle at 1000 rpm to preserve the fabric’s lightness
  • Ideally air-dry on a hanger
  • Ironing only if needed. Hang the garment right after washing to minimize the need for ironing

A small additional tip for reducing static electricity: if needed, lightly dampen your hands and run them over the tunic to reduce static buildup.

We hope these care tips will be helpful to you. I’ve been caring for my very first Oummi Abi Moi abaya this way for over 3 years now, and it’s still in excellent condition.
